Women in Science

So this month I have done a guest blog for Science Grrl, talking about my experiences working in both science and the media and why it is important to promote this sort of thing.

The idea behind all of this is to try and break some of the stereotypes surrounding girls in science as well as showing that it’s ok for girls to like science. What I have noticed going in to schools over the past few years is that by the age of around 16 many girls seem to give up on science, which is a shame. Certainly when I was at University in the 2000s doing my Physics degree, I was one of only a few girls doing the course, which was a shame. Hopefully this is something that will change. Young girls especially need to see that you don’t have to be a geek or a certain way to enjoy and take up science.
